Tullie Meyers works through layered abstractions across painting, transfer, mark-making, and digital media. Raised in a family of artists in Los Angeles, California, he developed an early relationship with creating that continues to shape his practice. Since earning a BFA from the California Institute of the Arts, he has worked alongside artists and within galleries while maintaining an active studio practice in Los Angeles. His work expresses a fascination with the subtle qualities of nature through delicate, soft tones to build intricate surfaces that feel deliberate yet undisturbed. Moving between spontaneity and control, Meyers emphasizes the inherent beauty of his materials, allowing process and gesture to glow.​

Statement

​

I create work that reflects my intuition, allowing each piece to unfold according to what feels most natural in the moment. From this commitment, even the casual marks of my hand become essential. My work is the result of a continuous process of adding and taking away, revealing an image that sits somewhere between abstraction and figuration. These pieces are made using acrylic paint, ink, oil pastel, charcoal, and various printing and transfer techniques. Swans and swallows are scattered throughout the compositions; I am drawn to the beauty of their curves and movement, as their forms reflect my way of creating, and echo the natural instinct of my hand.
